The weather was great, they were great, and as I was walking up the path with the laundry, I got the "you are a superhost again" email. So it was a case of out with a bang. 
Our schedules just don't allow hosting at the moment. 
We had a wonderful 10-year run for which we are grateful!

We're booked right up until the end of May 2022. The calendar is closed by default after that for planning. 
We intend to change things up. We will definitely let you know what that will look like once it is in place.
If you have been watching the calendar, thanks for your patience!]]><![CDATA[Back in lockdown]]>Thu, 21 Jan 2021 19:20:29 GMThttps://www.rivertreehouseonthesydenham.ca/current-conditions/back-in-lockdownWhen the new lockdown went into effect -- no non-essential travel Dec 26 to Feb 11 -- we contacted our booked guests and they chose whether they wanted to move their dates or cancel. Then the lockdown was extended to Feb 19, so we did it all again with the Feb 12 to 19 guests. 
If you are thinking of a making a booking, our best advice is to wait. Right now the spring is very nearly booked solid, and each lockdown extension moves bookings further and further out. It's no fun for you having to constantly reschedule. 
But if you are cool with possible rescheduling, we don't mind if your dreams of getting away from it all include booking a couple of nights, down the road, at the treehouse. 
We've used this downtime to upgrade a bit. The trail at the outhouse entrance needed benching and shoring up, and we are seeing whether we like recycled-tire mulch. So far so good, but it's really only the squirrels and deer who have tried it out. Here it is upon completion, and then the next day after a snowfall.

Today we got word that the provincial pandemic restrictions on STRs (short term rentals) such as ours are being lifted tomorrow (June 5). We have tentatively opened the blocked dates on our calendar.
We completely understand if already-booked guests wish to cancel any time up until 24 hours before check-in. That curve isn't flattened yet, after all. Our cancellation policy is the most flexible Airbnb allows.
But we will not cancel on you. We will honour all reservations, asking only that guests please reschedule if they feel at all unwell.
All is looking good here.
The porch has new balusters. (That was a pandemic project.) The treehouse is swept. The "lawn" is cut.
We are, we think, ready to host again...

But don't come right now, okay?
We can do our best in the treehouse itself, but we cannot sterilize every tree, every stick of wood, every inch of the porch, the bridge, the picnic table.
Cleaning before and after a stay has become overwhelming. Impossible. And not essential. We are not an essential service.
Although we love hosting, we think everyone should stay home right now. 
It will be wonderful to welcome guests again when the curve is flattened. Can't wait!
But for now, stay safe!

It's fall! The leaves are gorgeous, the weather is sunny and crisp (mostly), and the squirrels are going nuts!

They are huge and voracious. Fortunately they are also lazy, so they are not flying up to the treehouse porch. You are safe up there. Once you are on the ground, though, you are all theirs.

NEW IN THE OUTHOUSE
​We upcycled an old crackled-glass cabinet mirror for the outhouse this winter, removing many layers of paint.
So now you can check the angle of your toque, or how many streaks of mud there are on your forehead.
​It's easier than ever to stay fashionable at the treehouse!
